New Chief Executive joins national charity at critical time for fight against child poverty
01.07.04

The Child Poverty Action Group’s new Chief Executive, Kate Green, begins her work at the leading charity today and has spoken of the challenging time ahead for the child poverty lobby.

Kate, who comes to CPAG from One Parent Families, said:

'In the next few months and leading up to the General Election, the child poverty lobby has a number of challenges. Just this week the government has detailed plans for major job cuts at the Department for Work and Pensions while new research reports the increasing gap between the rich and poor areas in Britain.

'The Government has made an encouraging start to eradicating child poverty in the UK which should be applauded. There remains much more to do and with the Comprehensive Spending Review later this month and the expected General Election next year, the government has a great opportunity to ensure ending child poverty is their primary concern.'

CPAG promotes action for the relief, directly or indirectly, of poverty among children and families with children. We work to ensure that those on low incomes get their full entitlement to welfare benefits. In our campaigning and information work we seek to improve benefits and policies for low-income families, in order to eradicate the injustice of poverty.
