Leading national conference will mark 40 years of advice and support

Four decades of advice for low income families in Britain will be marked by a national conference taking place next Thursday in London.

Leading children's charity the Child Poverty Action Group will host 40 years of Welfare Rights at The London Voluntary sector Resource Centre in North London on Thursday 8 September 2005.

CPAG was established 40 years ago in 1965 and one of the founders and current President Professor Peter Townsend will make a keynote address at the conference. Other speakers include Kate Green OBE, Chief Executive of CPAG and leading author and researcher Geoff Fimister.

'We are very proud that for 40 years now CPAG has been at the forefront of welfare rights in Britain,' said Kate Green. 'This years conference is a great opportunity to mark that 40 years, to see what we and others have learnt from it and why 'rights' remain important and the vital role welfare rights advice and campaigning plays in reducing income poverty.'
