CPAG reaction to Blunkett resignation
02.11.05

The Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) today expressed its regret at the resignation of Work & Pensions Secretary David Blunkett but insisted that work on the welfare reform Green Paper must continue.

CPAG Chief Executive Kate Green said today:

“David Blunkett was committed to the aim of ending child poverty and we were expecting to work with him to make welfare reform contribute to that ambitious goal.

“There is a bulging in-tray for the new Work & Pensions Secretary, notably the Green Paper on welfare reform and the long overdue reform of the Child Support Agency.

“CPAG looks forward to working with David Blunkett’s successor and we hope they will be as passionate about programmes like Pathways to Work that help and support rather than force or threaten people into work.”
