12.04.06

Welfare Benefits and Tax Credits HandbookThe Child Poverty Action Group is this week publishing the latest edition of its renowned Welfare Benefits and Tax Credits Handbook. Fully revised and updated annually, this is the only guide to be issued within days of the new benefit/tax credit rates and regulations being published in early April.

The Handbook provides reliable, comprehensive information and guidance for claimants and their advisers. Now in its third decade of publication, the 2006/07 edition includes the latest information on benefit and tax credit overpayments, civil partnership changes, work-focused interviews, new rules on child benefit for young people and telephone claiming.

The new Handbook explains:

  • who can claim tax credits and income support;
  • disability benefits, and the personal capability assessment for incapacity benefit;
  • how housing benefit and council tax benefit are calculated;
  • jobseeker’s allowance and benefit sanctions;
  • how to claim from the social fund;
  • which benefits can be claimed if you are unemployed, a parent or carer, a student, retired or widowed, pregnant, entering the UK, sick or disabled, or a 16/17-year old;
  • how to challenge decisions; backdating; overpayments; income and capital; national insurance contributions.

The Welfare Benefits and Tax Credits Handbook is available for £33.00 plus £3.99 P&P direct from CPAG, 94 White Lion Street, London, N1 9PF; or for individual benefit claimants it is just £8.00 post free (cheques payable to CPAG). Later this year the Handbook will also be launched as an online service for the first time. More information is available from www.cpag.org.uk/publications or by email bookorders@cpag.org.uk
