Financial help in the early yearsLast updated: 23 April 2018
These factsheets outline what financial help may be available from pregnancy to school age, how universal credit or tax credits can help you qualify and what other conditions you must meet.
We have separated the information into two factsheets; one for people who come under the universal credit system, and one for people who are still able to claim tax credits and other legacy benefits.
See 'Financial help in the early years - if you get universal credit or live in a full service area' for information on universal credit and other support.
See 'Financial help in the early years - if you do not get universal credit or do not live in a full service area' for information on tax credits, legacy benefits and other support.
To check which factsheet is relevant, enter the claimant's home postcode at universalcreditinfo.net or see 'Are you ready for universal credit?' for the rollout timetable by local authority and job centre.
The information about benefits, universal credit and tax credits is relevant UK-wide, but some other help may only be available in Scotland.
The information in this leaflet is not a full statement of the law, and individuals should be referred for specialist advice where appropriate.
