Inquiry into the future of Jobcentre Plus

April 2016

CPAG's response to the Work and Pensions Select Committee Inquiry in the future of Jobcentre Plus focuses on the role of Jobcentres in supporting claimants into work.

We argue for the value of high-quality, personalised, one-to-one support, with investment in a high quality relationship between adviser and claimant. This should be driven by a positive culture of collaboration and voluntary engagement, and underpinned by a public service ethos, focused on the best interests of clients and assisting them to achieve their goals, rather than a target-driven approach with heavy emphasis on monitoring and ensuring compliance. Claimant commitments should be two-way, setting out support which will be provided as well as requirements on the claimant.
