Letter to the Minister for Health and Wellbeing and DWP Minister about the social fund in Scotland 23.04.12

April 2012

CPAG in Scotland has been actively lobbying the Scottish Government and Parliament on the importance of setting up an adequate replacement to the discretionary social fund (community care grants and crisis loans) following their abolition from April 2013 under the UK Welfare Reform Act. As well as providing evidence to the Welfare Reform Committee (see above) we have co-ordinated letters from a coalition of concerned organisations to the Scottish Government's Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing and to the DWP Minister as well as meeting with advisers and officials to press our concerns. We are seeking a replacement social fund that is adequately funded, easily accessible, protects conditions of eligibility in law and allows for a right to independent review of adverse decisions.
