Nick Clegg announces 'catch up' premium in his party conference speech

26 September 2012

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg announced the creation of a 'catch up' premium to help struggling children in the transition from primary to secondary school. The Liberal Democrat leader, speaking at his party's annual conference, said that from this year an additional £500 will be made available for children leaving primary school below the expected standard in English or Maths.

CPAG's Chief Executive, Alison Garnham, welcomed this announcement but warned that poverty is the destroyer of opportunity for rising numbers of children.
