Representing at the first-tier Tribunal

Level: Standard

This popular two-day course provides a basic grounding in representing clients at the First-tier Tribunal. Through using the Welfare Benefits and Tax Credits Handbook, legislation books, writing submissions and mock tribunals, participants gain experience in a safe environment where there is nothing to lose.

The course covers:

  • The appeal system
  • Making an appeal
  • Tribunal Procedure Rules (Social Entitlement Chamber)
  • Case preparation – finding the law, getting evidence, and applying the law to write a clear and concise submission
  • The roles of the judge; presenting officers; and representatives
  • Rules of evidence
  • Advocacy and presentational skills

This course is aimed at advisers with a working knowledge of benefits and little or no experience of representing at tribunals.
