SNP annual conference briefing on welfare reform, child poverty and the Scottish Budget

18 October 2012

We urged the Scottish Government to use the Scottish Budget to protect families, mitigate the impact of UK reforms and cuts and prevent as far as possible the huge costs associated with rising child poverty.

Whilst CPAG is under no illusions as to the limits to what Scottish Government can do to protect Scottish families within devolved powers there are three specific areas we want to see prioritised:

  1. Passported benefits: investment in free school meals
  2. Replacement social fund
  3. Advice and information services
