Universal Credit and children (NEW)
This course concentrates on universal credit (UC) as it affects families with children, whether making a new claim with children, or becoming responsible for a child while on universal credit.
UC was intended to actually simplify support for families and provide an incentive to work. But how much will families actually get, and what do they have to do in return? What is the impact of moving into work, and what about help with childcare costs? Participants will gain an understanding of eligibility criteria and conditions from pregnancy onwards, and how UC changes with the age of the youngest child.
The course covers:
- Responsibility for children under UC
- Elements, work allowance and calculations for families
- Childcare costs
- Conditionality for lone parents and couples with children
- Passporting to other help for families
The course is aimed at people new to advice work, or who have little or no experience of universal credit.
