The
Citizens' Rights Office furthers CPAG's aims by:-
- providing advice, training, information (including through CPAG
publications) and support to those advising on welfare rights
and tax credits;
- raising awareness of the inadequacies of social security legislation
and services, and seeking change by taking test
cases and lobbying;
- analysing legislation and using evidence from claimants to inform
CPAG policy making.
- NEW universal credit information
CPAG gives advice
about welfare benefits and tax credits to people who are advising
the public. Unfortunately we do not have the resources to provide
direct advice to people who are claiming benefits or to their friends
and families. If you are a member of the public wanting advice you
should contact a local advice centre, law centre or welfare rights
unit, where you can get face-to-face advice about your case. You
can obtain information about local centres in the community pages
of your phonebook or from a library. For online information, visit
our useful links page.
If you are an
adviser wanting help you can telephone our advice line on 020 7833
4627 any weekday afternoon between 2.00pm and 4.00pm. We welcome
and accept calls via Type Talk.
Unfortunately, due to limited resources we are not able to answer written advice queries to the Citizens’ Rights Office – this includes emails to advice@cpag.org.uk, letters and faxes. See Specialist
Support advice service below.
CPAG also has
a contract with the Legal Services Commission (LSC) to provide free
advice to eligible organisations on any matter relating to welfare
benefits and tax credits. Find out more details about the Specialist
Support Service.
