The local welfare assistance scheme for Cumbria is called Ways to Welfare.

For information see Cumbria County Council's website and Ways to welfare in Cumbria: Six simple steps to getting help and support, which states that:

Our support team will talk to you about your individual circumstances and will suggest the most appropriate course of action to help you to resolve your crisis. For most people this will involve signposting them to support services that are already providing help and emergency supplies to Cumbrian communities.

The website tells you how to apply and how you can ask for a review if you are not happy with the support, advice or assistance that you have been given.

But the website does not actually state that the Cumbria local welfare assistance scheme is still providing cash or grants or loans as it did previously.

Cumbria County Council covers the following areas:

  • Allerdale
  • Barrow-in-Furness
  • Carlisle
  • Copeland
  • Eden
