Campaigners welcome free school meals pledge

2.03.07

CPAG in Scotland today welcomed a pledge by First Minister Jack McConnell MSP to extend free school meals to tens of thousands of children in families facing in-work poverty. The group has been campaigning for many years for action on free school meals.

John Dickie, head of CPAG in Scotland said:

“This pledge comes after years of hard campaigning by the CPAG and others in the Campaign for Free School Meals, and represents a real breakthrough. Tens of thousands more children in hard pressed families should now be entitled to a free healthy school meal, and household budgets will be freed up to pay for other essentials.”
