New £4 billion for Sure Start, early years and childcare key to ending child poverty
03.08.07 Commenting on the announcement of new funds totalling £4 billion over 3 years as part of the Comprehensive Spending Review, for Sure Start and childcare, Child Poverty Action Group’s Chief Executive, Kate Green, said:
“Sure Start is an essential service in the fight against child poverty. The announcement of new funds to ensure Sure Start can be rolled out to every community is excellent news for every new parent in every community.
“We are particularly pleased that the Government has responded to the Public Accounts Committee’s recommendation to fund outreach work so that Sure Start services reach more of the most disadvantaged families.
“An ongoing commitment to children’s services and high quality universal childcare provision is key to meeting the Government’s target of ending child poverty by 2020. “
