End to child poverty key to success of Children’s Plan
11.12.07
Commenting on the announcement today of the ‘Children’s Plan’ by Ed Balls, the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, Kate Green, the Chief Executive of Child Poverty Action Group said:
“The wide range of measures announced today recognises many of the unmet needs of children poverty. We welcome the focus on disadvantage and early years support, with new funding for disabled children and for pre-school childcare.
“The common thread that will transform the plan’s patchwork of measures into a successful whole is an end to child poverty. The announcement comes 24 hours after Ed Balls won applause for a firm recommitment to halving child poverty by 2010 and ending child poverty by 2020. It is now up to the Treasury to make sure that 2010 child poverty target is met so that the Children’s Plan is not undermined.”
