Children need commitment from all of London to end child poverty in capital
15.07.08
Commenting on the launch today of the ‘London Pledge’ for services working with children in London to commit to action to help end child poverty in the capital, Kate Green, the Chief Executive of Child Poverty Action Group said:
“Londoners must unite to end child poverty. By showing our own commitment, as service providers, businesses or just individuals we can also step up pressure on the Government to show greater commitment in return.
“Service providers can play a key role in ensuring the full support is given that will help families move out of poverty. But the pledge needs to be taken up by all London’s businesses and employers too with a promise to pay a fair wage. The whole of London should be appalled that half of inner London children live below the poverty line.
“Please join us on October the 4th for the Keep the Promise rally in Trafalgar Square, calling on the Government to meet its commitment to end child poverty by 2020. The Government was right to make this historic promise to our poorest children, now you can hold them to it.”
