Children’s charity welcomes James Purnell to leading role on promise to end child poverty

Commenting on the appointment of James Purnell as the new Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, the Chief Executive of Child Poverty Action Group, Kate Green, said:
“James Purnell has a great opportunity to make fresh progress on the Government’s historic promise to end child poverty. His own Stalybridge and Hyde constituency is in an area where one in three children grow up in a families struggling to get by below the poverty line.
“We welcome Mr Purnell to his important new role and encourage him to show the public leadership needed to meet the targets of halving child poverty by 2010 and ending it by 2020.”
