Campaigners urge families to return tax credit renewal forms
24.08.06
Campaigners today issued a reminder to families receiving tax credits
that they should return their renewal forms by next Thursday’s
deadline.
The Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) said families should make
sure they are getting what they’re entitled to and warned
that HM Revenue & Customs could stop payments if forms were
not returned by the 31 August deadline.
CPAG’s Chief Executive Kate Green:
“This year’s deadline is a month earlier than it
used to be, so we’re concerned that families may have forgotten
or not yet got round to filling in their renewal form. It’s
really important that the forms are returned by 31 August otherwise
the payments that many parents rely on could be stopped.
“It’s also vital that people check they are getting
what they are entitled to and report any changes to their circumstances.
Anybody who is unsure about what they need to do should call the
tax credits helpline on 0845 300 3900 or contact their local advice
centre.
“We would be extremely concerned if the earlier cut-off
point means that families miss out on what’s rightfully
theirs and so we will be keeping a close eye on this year’s
renewal figures.”
