Child poverty targets must be met to deliver on promise to all children from all families

24.09.07

Commenting on today's speech by the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, to the Labour Party Conference, the Chief Executive of Child Poverty Action Group, Kate Green, said:

"We welcome the Prime Minister's firm recommitment to abolishing child poverty.

"His high ambitions for British children, from all families, recognise the cost each of us pays for the millions of disadvantaged children in this country that we currently fail.

"Politicians from all parties will be judged on whether they commit to the policies and investment that will end child poverty and ensure 21st century Britain benefits from everyone's contribution.

"The Prime Minister's commitment must be backed by the 4 billion extra annual investment needed to halve child poverty by 2010, so that Britain is on track to end child poverty by 2020."
