Report points way to brighter future for London children

28.02.08

Commenting on the release of Capital Gains, a report by the independent London Child Poverty Commission, the Chief Executive of Child Poverty Action Group, who is also Vice-Chair of the Commission, Kate Green, said:

“Child poverty is much worse in London than the rest of Britain. With one in five of Britain’s poorest children living in London, the Government cannot keep its promise to end child poverty without transforming the lives of children in the capital.

“Proposals to target more income investment to poor families in London are essential to reaching the government’s child poverty targets. Action on the specific barriers to employment in London and the low pay problems faced by families in the capital is vital.

“The report has given politicians, government agencies and London’s businesses a roadmap for lifting London’s children out of poverty. Putting the Commission’s recommendations into action will ensure a brighter future for London’s children.”
