  • Cost of a child in 2014

    Today we published our third annual report ‘The Cost of a Child in 2014’, written by Donald Hirsch from the Centre for Research in Social Policy at Loughborough University and funded by JRF. It draws on the Minimum Income Standard project (MIS) to establish how much families need to cover their basic needs like food, clothes and shelter, and to participate in society.

    The research shows that year on year, the cost of a child has been rising faster than inflation while support families receive from the state is falling.

  • Judith Paterson joins Social Security Advisory Committee

    We're delighted that Judith Paterson, Welfare Rights Co-ordinator at CPAG in Scotland has been appointed to the Social Security Advisory Committee (SSAC) which provides advice to the Secretary of State on proposals for the amendment of secondary legislation and on general social security matters as required.

  • Scottish Welfare Fund - new resources

    15 July 2014

    The Scottish Welfare Fund (SWF) is a national scheme delivered by local authorities which was set up in April 2013 when community care grants and crisis loans were abolished, and the funding for them devolved.

    CPAG has developed a new postcode look-up tool for Scotland, England and Wales for anyone to get details of how to apply to the SWF in their area (local welfare assistance schemes in England/Wales).

  • Campaigners shocked as 30,000 more children pushed into poverty in Scotland

    Official 2012/13 child poverty statistics for Scotland show that 30,000 more children are living in poverty. John Dickie, Head of CPAG in Scotland said, "These figures mark the turning of the tide on child poverty as UK Government tax and benefit policies slash family income at the same time as wages stagnate"
