The cost of this distance learning course is the same as a two-day course.
What is distance learning?
It is a correspondence course where you do not attend a training venue in person. Instead, you learn in your own home or workplace at your own pace, using printed training modules that we send out. There is a course tutor who can offer support and advice. They can be contacted by email, phone or post, whichever is your preference.
How are the modules assessed?
In each module you are expected to read, study and consider information. There are also exercises and course work to do. When you complete a module, you submit the course work to the tutor who assesses it and returns it with feedback.
How many hours/days a week would I have to spend on it?
There are a number of modules to complete over a set period of time. Each participant works at their own pace during this time. But we recommend that half a day a week is set aside.
What are the timescales and can it be extended?
The course starts in September and is for 8 weeks. You are expected to finish the course within the 8 weeks, while the tutor is available. We will provide a timetable with deadlines for each module to help you.
Is the course at the right level for you?
This is an advanced level course aimed at advisers who already have a working knowledge of tax credits. The course deals with the law on decision making, overpayments and appeals. It assumes you are already familiar with the eligibility rules and the tax credits calculation (at least in outline) including entitlement to elements and the income test. If you are not sure if the course is at the right level for you, please call us on 0141 552 3722 or email mwillis@cpagscotland.org.uk
