In-work benefits for disabled people

This one-day course looks at benefits and tax credits for disabled people and those with long-term ill health when they are considering moving into work.

It includes:

  • How benefits are affected by moving into full-time work
  • Help with housing costs at the start of a full-time job
  • Part-time ‘permitted work’ for those staying on benefit
  • Other benefits for people working part time
  • Better-off issues between working full and part time
  • Temporary work and how linking rules help with reclaiming benefit

This course is aimed at advisers familiar with benefit rules for those claiming on the basis of ill health or disability.

Lone parents considering starting work need clear advice on the possible effect on benefit and tax credit entitlement. This course considers benefit entitlement in both part-time and full-time work and looks at what help there is with childcare costs.

It includes:

  • How benefits and tax credits are affected by starting work
  • Better-off issues between working part time or full time
  • Help with childcare costs
  • Benefit run-ons and other help at the start of a job
  • Help with other costs such as school meals and health costs

This course is aimed at advisers with a basic knowledge of the benefit and tax credit system.

This half-day course focuses on recent and proposed reforms to the benefits system. It looks in particular at the increased conditionality (work for your benefit, work-related activity and work-focused interviews) due to be piloted for many claimants, and ongoing changes to disability and incapacity benefits.

It includes:

  • How lone parents, couples and others are affected by new workrelated activity or work-seeking requirements
  • Employment and support allowance – any recent developments
  • ‘Work for your benefit’ schemes and benefit sanctions
  • Disability living allowance and attendance allowance proposals
  • An overview of other reform provisions
